Jeep Hybrid Vehicles

Is the Jeep 4xe a hybrid? Yes! Currently there are two Jeep hybrid models available to Vista and San Marcos drivers. Letā€™s see what they have to offer:

Jeep Wrangler 4xe

As the first Jeep hybrid, the Wrangler 4xe was an ideal starting point, giving outdoor enthusiasts a nearly-silent ride that doesnā€™t disturb the wilderness with noise or tailpipe emissions when driven in electric mode. Almost indistinguishable from the gasoline-powered Jeep Wrangler, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe offers many of the same features, but also has plug-in hybrid capabilities. That means you can drive short distances (up to 49 miles) without using a drop of gas. With the combination of the electric motor and gas engine, your Jeep Wrangler 4xe can go up to 370 miles. As a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) the Jeep 4xe battery charges quickly with either home or public charging stations.

Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe

Of course, it only makes sense that the SUV thatā€™s won the most awards would be among the first to go electric. Like the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is also a PHEV with an all-electric range of 25 miles with a combined electric and gasoline range of 470 miles. The instant torque produced by the electric motor provides a lot of towing power. When properly equipped the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe has a 6,000-pound towing capacity. With seating for five across two rows, you and your passengers will enjoy the same quality ride thatā€™s made the Jeep Grand Cherokee a favorite for so many years.

Hybrid vs. Plug-In Hybrid vs. Electric: What’s the Difference?

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe and the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe are both plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, but if you’re entering the electrified marketplace for the first time, then you might have questions about what that means in practice.

Whether you’re comparing hybrids vs. plug-in hybrids, hybrids vs. electric cars, or mild hybrids vs. full hybrids, the following breakdowns are likely to be of use:

  • Mild Hybrid vs. Full Hybrid: Mild hybrid vehicles are becoming increasingly common. These models often have small electric motors that provide a boost to horsepower and torque. Mild hybrids are unlikely to offer the kind of fuel economy boost that most shoppers associate with the hybrid label. That said, they still make good use of electric power.
  • Hybrid vs. Plug-In Hybrid: Traditionally, hybrid vehicles are built with an electric motor and a gas engine that provide power at the same time. However, that’s not the only way to build a hybrid anymore. Unlike conventional hybrids, plug-in hybrid vehicles need to be plugged in to keep the battery fully charged. However, plug-in hybrids also give you the option to switch between several drive modes: gas only, gas+electricity, or fully electric! Comparing PHEVs vs. hybrid cars? PHEV is short for plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, so the above info is entirely applicable.
  • Hybrids vs. Electric Cars: Bearing in mind that there are at least three different kinds of hybrid cars, all hybrids differ from electric vehicles in several important ways. In the first place, all hybrids and plug-in hybrids can work fine even if you only fill your tank up with gas. EVs can only function if they’re occasionally plugged into an electric power source. It’s also worth noting that fully electric vehicles are generally more efficient than their hybrid and plug-in hybrid counterparts.

If you still have questions about mild hybrids vs. full hybrids or PHEVs vs. hybrids, don’t hesitate to reach out and let us know. We’ll help you sort through all the details and make sure that you end up with a vehicle that meets your needs.
